Thank you in advance!

Dear colleague,

My name is Maira B. Carvalho and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Genoa (Italy) and Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), as part of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Interactive and Cognitive Environments (ICEPhD).

The focus of my research is on educational serious games, and particularly the theory behind how gaming and pedagogical elements are connected to each other in a game to reach the game’s educational goals.

I am now carrying out an evaluation of two models for serious game analysis. My objective is to collect experts’ perceptions on how usable and how effective each of these models are for evaluating existing serious games.

My target audience is serious games experts – such as yourself.

Therefore, I would like to invite you to participate in this evaluation.

In exchange for your time, I will offer a 20€ gift voucher, which you can exchange, for example, for an e-book of your choosing in either Google Play or Amazon, or any other product you want. This will be offered for the first 13 participants to complete the questionnaire in full before March 18th (Wednesday).

How long does it take?

In total, it should take about 3 hours of your time – including playing the game, reading about the two models and performing the analyses themselves.

The questionnaire does not need to be completed at once. You can save it and return to it at a later time, as long as you finish it before March 18th, 2015.

What will I have to do?

You will be asked to play a serious game for at least 10 minutes. Then, you will be presented two models for serious games analysis, one at a time. I will ask to use these models to perform two analyses of the same game. Following each analysis, I will ask you a few questions about the model. Finally, I will ask you to compare them.

The analyses are going to be performed completely online, using a series of Google Documents and Google Spreadsheets that I created to guide you through the process. This is a prototype implementation of the models, so that I can get early feedback before implementing a software version for applying these models.

In case you have any issues filling the documents, I will be available via Skype to assist you.

By when do you need me to fill it?

I need the responses before March 18th. I need it so soon because of a deadline for providing the revised version of a journal paper submission.

If you can respond the questionnaire before then, please fill in the questionnaire in this link:

Three hours??? That is such a long questionnaire! What do I get in return?

I understand completely that dedicating such an amount of time can be extremely hard when you have so many other commitments and deadlines.

Here is what I can offer you in return:

  • In exchange for your time, I will offer a 20€ gift voucher for an e-book of your choosing. This will be offered for the first 13 participants to complete the questionnaire in full before March 18th.
  • You will get acquainted with two different ways of analyzing serious games, which will potentially help your own work in the future;
  • Expectation that I will return the favor, should you ever need it;
  • My lifelong gratitude;
  • Good karma :)

I do not have the time to fill in the questionnaire. Can I help in some other way?

Yes!

Please forward the link to this page (http://mairacarvalho.com/sg_survey) to any other serious game researcher, serious game designer, PhD candidates (2nd year onwards) and postdocs on games/serious games that you might know.

Spreading the word to help me reach other serious games researchers will already help me immensely!

Ok, I want to help!

First of all, my whole-hearted thank you!
